Quick lunch at El Taco Veloz after my visit to the Buford Highway Farmer’s Market. Yes, it is part of a chain, but it’s held fast here, seemingly forever.
The negative: the carne asada tends towards the dry, barbacoa is usually fatty (some fat is OK, but entire mouthfuls are just slimy). There are definitely places on Buford Highway that out run it by a mile.
The positive: ETV is the first place I ever ate lengua (beef tongue). Come to think of it, ETV is the only place I’ve eaten tongue. The burritos are pretty big. And they have a drive through – which is important, because the only seating is at the handful of barstools inside or out on the patio, which is just too hot.
Is it worth going out of the way for? I’d say no – but it is somewhat of an institution, and if you’re exploring Mexican food along the highway, it’s worth a visit.
Carne Asada Burrito – quite the cellphone camera beauty shot… (tastes better than it looks)
