DeKalb-Peachtree Airport (PDK) http://www.pdkairport.org/ is central to Buford Highway – it’s part of what gives the area character. It has contributed in it’s own small way to the food culture of the area. Downwind is a great place for burgers, with an unbeatable deck overlooking the tarmac, with Stone Mountain and downtown in the distance. It’s especially nice around sunset as the airport’s marker lights come on. 57th Fighter Group has come and gone, but it still holds a place as a landmark (a well hidden, slightly creepy landmark). Some of my favorite places are less that a thousand feet off opposite ends of runways 2L & 2R (Taqueria Los Rayos to the North, Pho Dai Loi #2 to the South).

Tomorrow (Saturday, June 7, 2008), PDK is hosting their Good Neighbor Day Open House from 12PM to 4PM. It’s a fun way to explore the airport and see a great air show. (In addition, you’re in the middle of Buford Highway with a great opportunity to do some eating…)
