I rode out a late night thunderstorm at this Iron Skillet years go, passing the time with one of their big/cheap steaks (it’s not Peter Luger’s – but this is a truck stop). HX & I decided to give it another try for lunch after visiting family.

Iron Skillet

As befitting any good truck stop, portions are huge. HX’s french toast was at least 6 slices, with a whole banana and a pint of sliced strawberries. The country fried steak with eggs and hashbrowns was very tasty (and not greasy) – best I’ve had in a while.

I don’t know any truckers, but if you think about it, they probably spend a lot of time talking to other truckers. So I’m guessing that if you run a truck stop, that it’s in your best interest to be sure you feed them well or you won’t last long. The point is – it’s all too tempting when you’re on the road to stop at a fast food joint, but don’t forget to explore the other options at the same exits.

  1. that’s looks really good! I’m not in Carnesville very often, but I get up that way once in a while. It’d be a good stop on the way to Persimmon Creek or some other GA wineries (if not a little out-of-the-way)
